Artist's Statement

Drawing and painting allow me to explore the world visually, sometimes with immediacy and freedom, sometimes with control.   I look for moments in life, nature and time.   I work with movement, seeing it in nature and people, and using it when I work, I scribble and splash, paint and wash, building layers and lines.

I have always loved the sea, and have been painting it since moving to the beautiful South Wales coast.   My daily walks are a constant source of inspiration and a wonderful time for gathering my thoughts and absorbing the freshness and energy of the sea.   I try to paint the feeling of being there, the air, the light, the movement, the energy, the constant change.  I'm also fascinated by people, and love both life drawing, and drawing from life.  I sketch the life around me in pubs and parties or on the beach, exploring movement and energy and trying to capture the moment.
